POM (polyformaldehyde) and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) composite materials combine the chemical properties of the two, and are often used in industry for corrosion resistance, low friction and other scenarios. The following is an analysis of its key chemical properties:
1. Acid and alkaline resistance
PTFE strong tolerance: PTFE is inert to almost all strong acids
(concentrated sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid),
strong bases (sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide) and strong
oxidants (such as aqua regosa), and has very high chemical
stability.
Limitations of POM: Pure POM is easy to decompose in strong acids
(such as concentrated sulfuric acid) and strong bases (such as
sodium hydroxide solution), but after being combined with PTFE, its
acid and alkali corrosion resistance is significantly improved,
especially in medium concentration acid and alkali environments.
Synergistic effect: PTFE as a dispersed phase can form a barrier,
reduce the direct contact between the POM matrix and the corrosive
medium, and delay degradation.
2. Solvent resistance and swelling
PTFE swelling resistance: PTFE is almost insoluble in any organic
solvent (such as , benzene, alcohol), and the swelling rate is very
low.
POM sensitivity: POM is easily eroded by polar solvents (such as
phenols, chlorinated hydrocarbons), but after being combined with
PTFE, the solvent penetration path is blocked, and the swelling
rate is reduced by more than 50%.
Application scenario: Applicable to components that need to contact
fuel oil, lubricating oil, or weakly polar solvents (such as
automotive fuel system seals).
3. High temperature resistance and thermal stability
PTFE high temperature resistance: PTFE long-term use temperature
can reach 260 ° C, short-term temperature resistance of 300 ° C,
and still remain chemically inert at high temperatures.
